Drarrie in de nacht

Junior Mthombeni, writer Fikry El Azzouzi and musician Cesar Janssens of the theatre company Jr.cE.sA.r opened last theatre season in Brussels with the multilingual theatre concert Malcolm X. The performance was received with much enthusiasm by audience and press alike and described as 'historic'. This time, the trio have opted to stage El Azzouzi's successful novel, Drarrie in de nacht. The writer won the Ark Prize of the Free Word for the highly acclaimed novel which was published in German as Wir da draußen. From 2018 you’ll even be able to find the Spanish translation on the shelves of bookshops in Buenos Aires (wayoow!).

The formula for Drarrie in de nacht has been tested and approved. There will be hip hop; there will be slam poetry. The beats will be produced live, and the languages will flow abundantly. The protagonist, Ayoub – played by none other than the writer himself – and his friends roam through the city and lead you into the night, through loneliness and sadness, through anger and fear. Apart from each other, they have no one to trust or to rely on.
