Bart Meulemans is doing an adaptation of Hedda Gabler, probably Ibsen’s most bitter play. You couldn’t call it a comedy, but the way the male characters circle round a spoiled, bored and above all deeply unhappy woman yields a number of hilarious moments. There is not much sign of emancipation. The characters close themselves off in a small, oppressive world in a period that demands a new certainty. With Ariane van Vliet in the title role.
