Le grand Cirque
Simon De Vos is director and founder of Sermoen. He is not afraid of grand gestures. Last season, he created a special Romeo en Julia with a group of graduating actors and a solid chunk of musical theatre called Mind Your Step. Nor is he afraid to broach major themes. And what could be ‘bigger’ than the Dutroux case? The KVS invited the French-Algerian writer Mohamed Kacimi to examine this painful episode in the recent history of Belgium. Kacimi ploughed through the whole archive. Unbelievable but true. We follow the farce of gendarmes and police, of directives and justice in the search for a certain Marc D. Le grand Cirque shows how a mixture of incompetence, egotism, underhanded competition and good intentions become a deadly cocktail. It would take less to destroy an individual. Or a country.
