MAU/LEMI PONIFASIO
TEMPEST: WITHOUT A BODY
dance & theatre

"CLEAR, Beautiful. Masterful. There is nothing more necessary to say about Lemi Ponifasio’s production of The Tempest. The voice of this work, sentient and succinct, need not be interrupted. It speaks for itself with a sacred tongue." (www.lumiere.net.nz)

Lemi Ponifasio and his MAU company are reviving Tempest II at the KVS, this time under the title Tempest: without a body. From an aesthetic perspective, MAU’s work is radically contemporary, but it draws abundantly on the traditions of the peoples of the Pacific. The great evocative power and ceremonial, ritual character of the performances have an almost meditative effect on the viewer. Tempest… is no exception. An angel with broken wings wanders around in a landscape of blood and destruction. The MAU dancers emerge from the shadows in order to pray on the ruins of history. A moving and alarmingly beautiful picture of the post-9/11 world.

“An impressive choreographic tour de force” (Le Soir)
