Research has shown that about 70% of people lose their way at some point and feel like they don’t belong, don’t deserve something, are an imposter, or aren’t legitimate enough to speak up. These issues always come back to the question of who we are, for ourselves and beside others. In relation to others. To the world. To where we come from, where we are, and where we are going.

A pilot. A space traveller. A grandfather. In Wie we zijn, Fien Leysen tries to find answers to the title question: who are we? She looks back on where she came from and strikes up a conversation with among others her grandfather, who was a pilot in the Belgian army. For years he flew to third world countries with emergency food packages, getting shot at several times and even captured once in Congo. In all his stories, he sounds like a fearless explorer, almost a hero from war films. He is 83 years old now. How does he look back at life and at himself? What would he fight for today?

On stage audio, video and text will alternate. What or who else will be on stage or what might happen, will depend on where the story wants to go.
