In 3500 pages the Norwegian Knausgård wrote down his struggle with life. Free from shame and with language as his instrument, he tried to transcend the banality and enclosure of his own little life. In search of meaning, despite everything. Writing gave his life meaning – at the expense of his loved ones, and ultimately his own sanity. In KNAUS, Valentijn Dhaenens and Alexia Leysen unravel a human who has to ask himself: Why did I do this? What right did I have?

If God is dead and the heavens are empty, KNAUS asks the impossible questions about what is valuable in this universe. We see a man who, between the infinitely large and the infinitely small, between the elevated and the banal, between the stars and the diapers, tries to stand his ground around the question: “Who am I?”.
