Theatre for Democracy Day
To this effect, the five participating theatres invite a group of international authors each year, who work with a community that is underrepresented in Western theatre literature. In dialogue with these people, the authors create a short play text.
All of these plays are then presented in each of the partnering countries on THEATRE FOR DEMOCRACY DAY (a yearly celebration around Europe Day including debates, readings and artistic interventions). The first year is dedicated to youngsters. During the 2022-23 season, youngsters from the participating countries will help write, perform and contextualise the texts. In the coming years, we will focus on decolonisation, (non-)citizenship and violence against women. That way, we build a more diverse and inclusive canon for the future.
The curators, authors, actors and directors involved in the project will be announced in the autumn of 2022.
