Mike Van Alfen

Co-director / dramaturge

Mike van Alfen was born in Amsterdam but has lived in Brussels since 1996. After graduating from the Amsterdam Academy of Theatre and Dance (1989), he created various physical theatre performances.

Mike worked mainly in the Netherlands as a freelance performer and co-creator on dozens of projects in a wide variety of styles, forms and disciplines.

From 1997-2007 he was an actor/maker with Made In Da Shade, an Amsterdam theatre group that mixed mainstream Euro-American culture and hip-hop.

Between 2007 and 2014 he was part of the artistic team of Amsterdam production company/stage MC, where he worked as a facilitator/supervisor/director with new storytellers from the big cities. 

He continued working freelance in similar roles in Flanders and Brussels. As a dramaturge and (co)director, he was involved with Kuzikiliza, the first performance by Pitcho Womba Konga.
