Próximamente Festival is back! We are thrilled to announce the third edition of this vibrant artistic gathering, taking place from November 18 to 23 in Brussels. Exploring the theme of FUTURO ANCESTRAL, the festival seeks to find the connection between the ancestral and the contemporary, inviting us to rethink our societies through the lens of art.
Join us for six days of works-in-progress, lectures, showcases, round tables, talks, gatherings, Latin karaoke, and celebrations, opening up a space to come together in these turbulent times. Artists from Latin America and its diasporas will spark conversations with Brussels’ artists, sharing their creative processes and visions for the future. Made in collaboration with institutions from Latin America and Europe, Próximamente is a platform for artistic cooperation, celebrating diversity and innovation.

Festival Statement
EN We find ourselves in a time of extreme polarization, marked by conflicts of both physical and symbolic violence. The sense of the “end of history” now extends into the future: it’s easier to imagine an apocalyptic war or natural disaster than a transformative alternative.
In today’s increasingly dehumanised world, we witness images of widespread human and environmental destruction on our screens, as if generated by AI. This is why we advocate for the importance of human connection and collaboration, of people sharing stories and diverse perspectives on the world. For this reason, the performing arts are irreplaceable—the live exchange of narratives and dramaturgies offers us the possibility of discovering new ways of thinking and feeling, together.
It’s about understanding the stories told by the protagonists and recognising how these stories resonate across different territories, particularly through the lens of diasporas. Everything is interconnected.
We still need a new, more complete and just narrative to help us envision a better future—a future that draws from the diverse wisdoms of the past.
That’s why we invite you to reflect on the idea of el Futuro Ancestral, the Ancestral Future, two terms that may seem contradictory but, in fact, embody the integration of new perspectives and voices to shape what is to come, or what we hope to create. They invite us to imagine the future through the wisdom of both the past and the present—especially a past that has been marginalised from the official narrative and remains, to a great extent, unknown.
Gerardo Salinas & Cecilia Kuska.
Gerardo Salinas y Cecilia Kuska.
