Choclo, Choclo, Pochoclo is a performative, sonic and choreographic lecture that examines the melodramatic and toxic relationship Latin America has with money and cycles of debt.

Structured in four acts, the lecture brings together choreography, sound art, archive and fiction to construct a stage-based investigation into the ways capital organises material and sensory life in the region. Voice, movement and sound become choreographic material, tracing a landscape where humour coexists with melodrama and critical thought.

Choclo and pochoclo — corn on the cob and popcorn — function as metaphors for the tensions running through Latin America. While choclo evokes ancestral knowledge, local economies and forms of existence that resist extractive logic, pochoclo embodies corn transformed and whitened by the “colonial fire”.

Through a hybrid language, the work continues to ask questions about debt and the ways in which it runs through our bodies and histories, and through the ways we embody, narrate and negotiate Latin America.
