After much-lauded creations including Tornar, Invited and Birds, in 2027 choreographer and dancer Seppe Baeyens introduces you to a new, temporarily shared universe: Kosmos.
This new creation, a collaboration with KANAL-Centre Pompidou & KVS, is based on the idea of a ‘museum for everyone’: one where all people can recognise themselves and feel welcome. In Kosmos, you, the museum visitor, become the co-author of a shared choreography that disrupts patterns within the well-known museum course. But Kosmos also extends beyond the museum walls. Using the body as a living sculpture, Baeyens opts for protracted, enduring interventions, blurring the boundaries between museum and public space.
Using simple ideas and compositions like sitting, walking, circling, sculpturing, dancing, singing and playing, Baeyens lets visual and performing arts blend together in Kosmos. Parallel to the existing exhibition or collection, performers appear and disappear at unexpected times in the various rooms of the museum. Using the cosmos as a source of inspiration, this creates human landscapes within the space-time continuum of the museum.
The museum, through coincidence and the use of man as the artwork, briefly becomes a space for unexpected encounters, invitations and interactions. An experience that brings up moments of recognition, distance, emotion, and (mis)understanding.
