La Rioja
The Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro de La Rioja (FITLO) was created in 2017 out of a desire to build a cultural meeting space — a window onto the world. The festival offers society a view of contemporary theatre from Ibero-America while building a cultural exchange network between Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. FITLO has grown into a hub for work, reflection and exchange of ideas among different countries and cultures. Its programming focuses on emerging, contemporary productions, presented in theatres, unconventional venues and the public space. Alongside performances, FITLO organises parallel activities such as workshops, talks, artist encounters and production spaces. In recent years the festival has placed strong emphasis on research, artistic mediation and international (co)productions, further strengthening its role within the performing arts.
Jorge Tesone
Jorge Tesone is Artistic Director of Chamán Producciones and, since 2016, Director of the Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro de La Rioja (FITLO). He is also an actor and theatre teacher, and since 2013 has coordinated the training department at NAVE’31 in Logroño. Since 2022, he has co-organised the Festival de Arte y Cultura en el Medio Rural PIEZAS.
Born in Argentina, he has lived in Spain since 2012. He trained at the Instituto Nacional de Arte Dramático (IUNA) in Buenos Aires and earned a Master’s in Cultural Management from La Fábrica. He furthered his education at the Escuela de Teatro de Buenos Aires (ETBA) under Raúl Serrano, and continued acting and directing studies with Pablo Messiez, Tamzin Townsend, Ciro Zorzoli, Manuel Santos and Guillermo Cacace.
Andrea Pellejero
Andrea Pellejero graduated in Visual Arts from the Institut del Teatre in 2019. During her studies she co-founded the collective Las Huecas, creating, among others: Projecte92’ (Antic Teatre), Aquellas que no deben morir (TNT Festival, 2021), Algo de Amor (TNT Festival, 2023), De l’amistat (Temporada Alta, 2023).
In 2020 she founded the company Monte Isla, with pieces including Allí donde no estamos (Espai Nyam Nyam, 2021), Donde empieza el bosque acaba el pueblo (TNT Festival, 2022), Escuchas del paisaje (La Mutant, 2023), Un cuerpo sin talento (Grec Festival, 2024). One of Pellejero’s most ambitious projects is Això al poble no li agradarà, a festival for live and contextual arts in the Girona regions. Its core mission is to decentralise contemporary theatre, freeing it from the metropolitan context.
Andalusia
BOX LEVANTE – Centro escénico del Estrecho is located in Algeciras, the southernmost city on the Spanish mainland, on the north shore of the Strait of Gibraltar. BOX LEVANTE provides a space for the creation and presentation of contemporary performing arts. With a clear territorial and cross-border focus, the centre works along two main lines: supporting and invigorating the local performing-arts scene, and hosting national and international artists for research and residency projects.
Its programme includes performances, experimental laboratories, workshops, residencies and showcases.
Since opening, the centre has developed several residency programmes and support schemes for Maghreb creators. It was selected by IBERESCENA 2025, a fund supporting the performing arts in Ibero-America. BOX LEVANTE aims to be a meeting place for experimentation and artistic exchange in southern Spain.
Ahmed Ben Attia
Ahmed Ben Attia (Granada, 1991) describes himself as a “man-between-scenes”, bringing together seemingly opposing stages in performance — resulting in a distinctive, playfully inventive approach. He has worked as an actor (including with director Sara Molina). He created and led Sostener lo que se cae, a Moroccan platform for preserving Teatro Cervantes in Tangier; the Laboratorio Inestable del Mohín in the Vallecas district; and Box Levante – Centro escénico del Estrecho, which he founded in 2021 in the port of Algeciras to foster research and creation in the performing arts.
As a maker, he created Opus 1 (premiered October 2023 at the FIT in Cádiz) and Opus cero (October 2024), both critically acclaimed.
María Moncada Bandera
María Moncada Bandera (1989). Architect, set designer, actress and art director. She obtained her degree in Architecture from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Interested in plastic creation and urban processes, she founded madeinmadrid.cc in 2013, a network for artisanal and decentralized furniture production based on her own creative commons or open-source designs. The project was selected by Medialab-Prado Madrid to be developed within the U-Lab – Transforming business, society and self program in collaboration with MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
In 2015, she carried out a participatory furniture design and construction program in several centers for people with intellectual disabilities in the Community of Madrid, in collaboration with Fundación APROCOR. From then on, she combined her work in architecture studios with her own creative projects.
Since 2018, she has been a member of the Laboratorio Inestable del Mohín, a group dedicated to reflection and research on the performing arts. At the same time, she works as a set designer, actress, and art director alongside Juan Sanz on various stage projects.
Since 2023, she has served as president of the Asociación Alcultura and as director of the Boxes Alcultura project, promoting new dynamics of creation, exhibition, and mediation within contemporary performing arts.
