Les Africains

Koffi Kwahulé / Kollektif Sorashilé

After the performance, a post-performance discussion will take place, which will last half an hour. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Because everyone comes from somewhere — the migrations to Eurasia, the Bering Strait, the East, all of that: Cro-Magnon, Neanderthal, Denisova, Homo erectus, Homo sapiens, Homo habilis, Australopithecus, all of that — the peopling of Asia, Australia, the Americas, Europe... humans arrived everywhere at some point, which means everyone started from somewhere. But the Africans — where did they leave from? – Koffi Kwahulé

In a hair salon inside a shopping mall, men and women exchange the latest neighborhood gossip: one of them has become a minister; Nolivé is in love with a man her family rejects; a little boy has gotten lost among the aisles... Meanwhile, the supermarket broadcasts promotional announcements, and a group of climate-displaced people dream of another place beyond the shores. This text joyfully draws from every source of theatre (comedy, tragedy, ancient chorus, farce) to paint a striking portrait of contemporary Africans caught between tradition and globalization.
