STATE OF THE ARTS
KVS
AirEuropa is the official sponsor of the Próximamente Festival.

PRÓXIMAMENTE opens its fourth edition with a new State of the Arts from Latin America.
How do we understand the present when the stories we inherit are incomplete and biased? Artists from different countries and diasporas come together to reflect on a continent in transformation: the rise of new right-wing movements, the challenges facing artists and societies, and the memories and ghosts that continue to shape our present.
Join a conversation facilitated by the festival's artistic coordinator Cecilia Kuska in dialogue with Claudix Vanesix, Maldita Vaina, Marta Salinas, Sharon Mercado Nogales, Claudia Poblete and Olivia Manrufo Hernández, with the input of the rest of the artists in the programme and in dialogue with the audience present. Expect an inspirational conversation, sharing with us the space we want to hold together.
We will also celebrate the legacy of Johan Mijail*, an artist we were dreaming of hosting at this year's festival.
*Johan Mijail (1990–2026) was a Dominican writer and performance artist. Openly transgender and raised between a white father and an Afro-Dominican mother, she lived in Chile from 2012 to 2019, and the experience of being a Black immigrant in a country imagined as white shaped her writing on race, gender and colonialism — from Manifesto Antirracista (2018) to her novel, Chapeo (2021).
