Towards Apartheid Free Zones
SOLIDARITY WORKING GROUP – TOWARDS APARTHEID FREE ZONES

Towards an apartheid-free sector

The Towards Apartheid Free Zones (TAFZ) initiative regularly organises meetings specifically for the arts and culture sector. Together, we are building a network of organisations committed to active solidarity – by making conscious choices that contribute to a just society and an ethical artistic practice.

TAFZ invites cultural institutions to demonstrate concrete commitment to cultural boycott and divestment by:

  • delegating staff members to attend our meetings (as paid working time);
  • making infrastructure available (spaces for meetings, benefit events, artistic interventions, etc.) and/or providing resources.

What happens during the solidarity group “Towards an apartheid-free sector”?
During these sessions, we divide into four working groups: divestment, communication, programming, and education/awareness-raising around boycott and divestment. Cultural workers are free to join any session and any working group.

A concrete example of TAFZ’s work is the current Big Switch campaign, through which we are demanding sector-wide divestment from major banks such as Fortis and KBC – in collaboration with FairFin.
In addition, we are working on the programming of a new series, Monologues for Gaza (30 March 2026 at KVS).

Would you like to join us? Organisations already engaged in TAFZ include KAAP, Monty, GRIP, ROBIN, SPIN, Argos vzw, Kunsthal Gent, KOROW (Center for Cultural Decontamination, Social Diagnostics & Social Correction), Pzazz and A.pass.
