As with every Próximamente edition, Mestizo Arts Platform is part of the programme with a full-day programme in collaboration with KVS. This time, together with and at Ultima Vez. Read more about the Próximamente Festival itself at the bottom of the page!

Julia Färber Data and Sharon Mercado Nogales draw from their Latin American cultural heritage and explore how rhythms, dances and memories can transform when they enter a new body, a new context and a new time.

What the body remembers travels with it.

Julia presents a showcase of SOBRAN, which premieres on 6 October this year; Sharon pitches her work Remix, which is programmed at the festival the following day, 21/11. After the pitch, we will talk with both artists and close the morning in true MAP style with a delicious lunch.

Practical information:

20/11 – 10:00 @ Ultima Vez (Zwarte Vijversstraat 97, 1080 Brussels)

About the artists

Julia Färber Data was born and raised in Baja California. She began her theatre career at a young age before moving to Mexico City, where she studied social anthropology alongside contemporary dance and an internship in the field. She is now a performing artist based in Brussels. She is the former founder and organiser of Top Floor Festival and also founded Collective MALACATE, a creative lab based in her home country of Mexico and in Brussels.

Read more about SOBRAN HERE.

Sharon Mercado Nogales is a dancer and choreographer from the Bolivian Andes. Her work incorporates autobiographical material that undergoes a process of remembrance, using the knowledge of her ancestors and her present-day life experiences as a framework through which to rethink and transform this material. Her aim is to create bodily practices and dance pieces that set both the body and emotions in motion. Starting from the body, she continuously challenges the contemporary cultural spectrum, working towards a reinterpretation of her material experiences.

Together with Eli Wewentxu, she founded the collective Moviendo Territorios and is co-founder of cobracobra, together with Kiana Rezvani. Since 2021, she has been sharing the dance practice Technocumbia.

Sharon presents her performance Remix on 21/11 (21:30) at KVS BOX. More information can be found HERE.
