WIPCOOP: Work in progress 2021

Mestizo Arts Platform, KVS & Kaaitheater
Wed 27.10.2021 - Thu 28.10.2021

For the sixth year in a row, WIPCOOP sets up camp in Brussels. WIPCOOP means making space for new voices, stories, formats and languages in the performing arts. A co-production between multiple cities which helps the arts sector stay up to date with developments in the rich soil of our urban environments, and a network that supports artists in the development of their work.

New for this edition is the location: for the first time WIPCOOP will take place entirely at Kaaistudio’s on Thursday 28 and Friday 29 October. From now on Kaaitheater and KVS will take turns organising the event each year. That way, both institutions can open their doors to even more talent from the buzzing Brussels scene.

During WIPCOOP, artists will have the opportunity to show a mixed audience of professionals and curious viewers where they stand with the development of their new stage creations. In total, six artists or collectives will each perform 30 minutes of their Work in Progress. They then have a one-hour conversation with a collective of dramaturges, workshops, producers and programmers about their creation and about possible support. During these breaks, other artists talk about new work, new initiatives or projects, in artist talks with the audience.

WIPCOOP – the Work In Progress Cooperative of Mestizo Arts Platform – is a year-round development track in Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent and Mechelen. The main purpose? Using the power of the cooperative to make new artistic work visible, to set up a dialogue, and to match artists with organisations to help them further develop and perform their work.

The Works in Progress take place during the day at Kaaistudio’s and are free. You can discover the following artists: Lucas Katangila, Roxane Hardy/One Nation Crew, Inès El Bakari & Jad Zeitouni, Jenny Onya Ambukiyenyi, Yousra Dahry & Briana Ashley Stuart. For more information, visit www.kaaitheater.be.

At KVS, you have a chance to see fully- fledged performances (#WIPPlays) that have grown from past WIPCOOP editions. On Friday 28 October you can attend the premiere of Aro Ilè (p.26) at KVS right after the WIPCOOP sessions at Kaaitheater. Ouragan (p. 39) is also part of the #WIPPlays track. The perfect chance to witness the growth and development of these performances from the front row.
