Dutch Lisette Ma Neza moved to Brussels for her film studies at LUCA. She also built a career as a slam poet, becoming the first Dutch-speaking woman to win the Belgian Poetry Slam Championship in 2017. She appeared as a slam poet several times on KVS stages between 2017 and 2019, in SLOW KIN<>BRU, Rise Up and Afropean/Human Being (tryout). In 2020, KVS invited her for a short performance during The Light That Never Goes Out and Mindblowers (in an edition about beauty).
Lisette Ma Neza also worked during the lockdown on an artistic trajectory for the Don Bosco Institute, in response to an acute shortage of Dutch teachers. Lisette will further develop this trajectory with KVS and some schools from the Brussels Capital Region. In 2021, she took part in the slam night of Congolisation at KVS and in 2022 she can be seen at KVS BOL with L'Europe Noire, as part of Europalia Trains & Tracks.
KVS wants to further support this young artist in the development of her work. In addition to school work, she will create her own productions as a KVS face. In fall 2023, she will make the multidisciplinary performance Black Girls who Vienna in White Languages, in collaboration with the Flemish Audiovisual Fund for which she will also publish a collection of poems and essays. She is also working on a documentary series/poetic essay in which she will search for Afropean identity. In 2025 she will create a theater performance with actress Bibi van Lieshout and in 2027 an international production with slam poets from different parts of the world. As a new maker, she will be coached by KVS faces Pitcho Womba Konga and Junior Mthombeni.
