In 2021, Martha Balthazar collaborated as a co-creator with Seppe Baeyens and Yassin Mrabtifi on Birds, a co-production with Ultima Vez. That same year, she graduated from KASK with Boerenpsalm, a critical musical carried by resonant voices from the agricultural sector. For her artistic practice, Balthazar always starts from a social inquiry built on interviews and research. In her work, the multiplicity of voices in such debates is central, and she offers a faithful translation of that plurality onto the stage. For Victoria Deluxe, she created Onze Mensen, in which she had young people embody voices from the Flemish far-right discourse. In 2024, Martha, together with Jana De Kockere, Barbara T’Jonck and Mats Vandroogenbroek, created the documentary performance Rustoord, about elderly care in Belgium today.
Martha Balthazar is also a journalist and writer. In 2020, she won the Emile Zola Prize for her essay Five chapters on wanting both ways, which explores her personal doubts as an activist, an emancipated woman, and a millennial. In 2025, together with climate scientist Leon Adriaensen, she received the Caroline Pauwels Fellowship for Wonder, for the project Aha (working title).
