First short film by Lisette Ma Neza in premiere at Courtisane
A few days after her inauguration as Brussels' first city poet (21 March), Lisette Ma Neza, a familiar face at KVS, celebrates the Belgian premiere of her first short film Branden at the Courtisane Festival. Along with Bamssi, a film by Mourad Ben Amor, Branden is part of the festival's closing night, on March 31 at Paddenhoek in Ghent at 9pm.
A collective poem about the burning of homelands, about the fire and smoke of armed conflict; which make 'refugees' out of people. A poetic conversation with five different women about leaving where they came from, about leaving and (never really) arriving. An ode to the displaced woman.
Lisette Ma Neza (Netherlands, 1997) is a poet with a camera. Her artistic practice is a constant attempt to translate herself and others. She explores the lives and feelings of displaced people, survivors of great violence, of Africans in Europe, of diasporas of women. This research culminates in poetic essays, word art, film and theatre.
Branden was produced by Neza in co-production with Accattone Films and LUCA School of Arts, with the support of KVS. The film was made as part of Lisette Ma Neza Ntukabumwe's graduation project at LUCA School of Arts.
