Proyecto Azul is a work that places on stage a character who has just witnessed the death of his best friend. The impact of this loss drives him to embark on an imaginary journey that allows him to distance himself from Earth and observe the human condition from afar, seeking to understand what seems incomprehensible. Alongside this impulse is a desire to find new ways of telling the story of life, together with the voices of those who are no longer here. It is also a need to distance himself from a world marked by violence and imagine whether it is possible to conquer other worlds that might function differently.

Yet this fantasy gives rise to an inevitable paradox: how can we escape from a history built on conquest by turning, precisely, to the idea of conquering new worlds? The journey into space thus becomes an attempt to gain distance from Earth in order to understand it better, but also an interrogation of the persistence of the very same logics we seek to leave behind.

Throughout the work, an actress of Palestinian origin and an actress of Jewish origin portray an astronaut while also embodying different inhabitants of ancient and contemporary Palestine, moving between different times and geographies. They guide the audience through a narrative that interweaves episodes from Palestinian microhistory with milestones from the space race, establishing temporal, political and human resonances between the two stories.

From this perspective, the work moves through different moments in Palestine, evoking events such as the Nakba of 1948 — the mass expulsion and displacement of the Palestinian population — and the Naksa, or Six-Day War, of 1967, as well as scenes based on testimonies from Palestinian people and recreated voices of the actresses’ ancestors. These episodes enter into dialogue with references from the space race, ranging from astronaut myths in the context of the Cold War to missions such as Apollo 13 and the recent Artemis programme, which renews the human desire to conquer the Moon and reach other worlds.

In Proyecto Azul, historical events do not appear in chronological order, but rather as materials that reflect and challenge one another. While humanity imagines ways of expanding its frontiers into space, forced displacement and struggles over territory continue to shape the Palestinian experience.

In this way, stories based on real experiences and fictionalised narratives intertwine in a performance constructed through the constant layering of textual, sonic, gestural and spatial elements. The work questions the mechanisms that shape our perception of history and invites the audience to observe the Earth and the stories that structure our lives from a distance: from the blue that can only be seen from afar, like the blue of our planet when viewed from space.
