Wasted land

NTANDO CELE / VIDY LAUSANNE

Co-Presentation with Kaaitheater

Pre- and post-show discussion

On 22/04, prior to the performance at 8 p.m., Anne Wetsi Mpoma will lead a conversation introducing her personal work and research, focusing on the themes explored later on stage, with special attention to waste colonialism. After the performance, Ntando Cele will join Anne Wetsi Mpoma to continue and deepen the discussion.

A fiery, whimsical musical performance led by Berne-based South African artist Ntando Cele, a dazzling performer with vibrant, ironic energy.

Against an apocalyptic backdrop, she brilliantly tackles the human disasters of fast fashion and Western feel-good ecology, reassured by organic labels and comforting promises of recycling. When one person’s sustainable dream becomes another’s disaster… With Egyptian composer Wael Sami Elkholy and three remarkable singerperformers, Wasted Land is a wild and liberating plea for decolonial ecology.

The press about Wasted Land

“Wasted Land, particularly in light of entrenched power structures, is critical of the possibilities for rapid change. Yet it seems tirelessly to دعوت reflection and contemplation, and to this intention: to buy less shit!”
— Theaterkrant

“A whimsical and political performance, driven by an energy that is as sharp as it is ironic.”
