With C la vie, Serge Aimé Coulibaly takes his place within a richly filled tradition and creates a new, contemporary rite of initiation that makes us think about life and our way of living in the world in 2023. 

Nine performers get together on stage – a public square where anything can happen, and nothing gets lost. During this rite of initiation, they invite us to witness the disappearing of the old world. There is no initiation without the experience – no matter how temporary – of an unstable world.
 
This story does not feature a long series of trials nor a hero who needs to overcome them, but rather one major challenge: how can we exist together? The core of the rite of initiation that is C la vie is Encounter – with music, with each other, with reality, with time, with the planet, with loved ones, etcetera. The only thing that counts is the occurrence of the encounter and the attempt to connect with the world.
 
C la vie is not about filling a void, but about showing the multitude of possibilities for togetherness as an antidote to our current world, which sinks into its own destruction …
 

As an artwork, C la vie is particularly well placed in Brussels, the hyper-diverse city where the Encounter is a commonplace. Setting your foot on Brussels soil means entering a universe of continuous intersections, blends and collisions of different worlds. Brussels is a parable and a microcosm, as is the stage in C la vie.

And just like the nine performers, the inhabitants of Brussels and its passers-by experience a vibrant instability, in which the most unexpected connections emerge. Here, in this elusive, small metropolis, new worlds can thrive.

KVS is putting a spring in its step with a programme full of dance! We launched a new European dance prize in collaboration with seven European theatres, the Salavisa European Award. And 2024 starts with a unique and extensive dance programme.
