Mawda parcours

For over two years, theatre creator and actor Marie-Aurore d'Awans and filmmaker-journalist Pauline Beugnies, together with KVS dramaturge Kristin Rogghe, have been collecting material from reality (through interviews, attending the trial, ...), and they are in dialogue with Mawda's parents to create this performance. Mawda means affection tells the story of Mawda, the little girl who was killed by a Belgian police bullet in May of 2018.

We want to tell this story. The love story of the parents, a Kurdish Romeo and Juliet. The story of her big brother, forever marked by this drama. The story of a life in exile. But we also want to understand how this drama could have happened. In what political context? And how do our media deal with it? How is it that a drama that should feed the public debate about migration policy is ultimately reduced to a fait divers?

In order to be able to tell this story in all its facets, we decided to supplement the performance with an exhibition, a concert, a conference, follow-up discussions, a school performance and educational file and a meeting moment.

Educatief dossier

How can you help?

It's the law that needs to change, not the people it exlucdes. HUde your right as a citizen and help to table a fair migration law proposal in parliament.

During the performances of Mawda means tenderness - from September 30 to October 8 - you can sign this civil law proposal in the reception of KVS BOX. You only need 2 minutes and your identity card to do so. You can also sign online.

This is not a petition. This is an exercise in participatory democracy. By signing, you can do something about the extreme inequality that affects 150,000 fellow inhabitants of this country. They live, work and love here, but they are not recognised as citizens.

Sign this citizens' law proposal, in protest against the global apartheid regime that sorts and exploits people based on their country of origin. And ask others to sign as well.
