Trigger warnings

Strobe, loud music and blackouts

Gloria always believed she was ‘pretty unique’.

Until one day she runs into herself.

Or rather, someone who is very much like her.

Someone with exactly the same name, the same body, the same dreams.

The more she tries to be original,

the more she gets stuck in a simulation of her own life.

Until she realises she has become exactly what she had always fled from:

a reproduction,

a duplicate,

a pastiche of herself.

COPYRIOT is about the search for solid ground in a world that increasingly looks like a copy of a copy. Inspired by Charlie Kaufman’s films and by Dostoevsky’s absurdist short story The Double, Krapp wants to evoke a tragicomical mirror world full of strange duplications and dubious doppelgängers.

Although individuality appears to reign supreme, we are increasingly mistaken for our virtual doppelgängers: idealised ghosts that look a lot like us and – who knows – perhaps one day will become more ‘real’ than us.

Once again, Krapp tries to face the ‘monstrous’ with COPYRIOT. After dealing with paranoid cyborgs, gothic ghosts and the Devil himself, they now confront the biggest monster of modern times: the ego.

The press about COPYRIOT

“From the very beginning, the tone is set and the qualities of the performance, its creators, and performers are clear: a subtle, disorienting humor and equally nuanced acting, a clever and accessible text, and tight direction.”
— Etcetera

“Being yourself: it’s the obsessive compulsion of our time. Krapp and KVS ingeniously split this self-demand in two in a performance that hits twice as hard.”
— De Standaard
★★★★☆

“Thanks to their precision and psychological insight, the young cast of KRAPP shows how theater can portray a state of mind, make it relatable, and at the same time keep it compelling.”
— Pzazz
